Behind That Wave - Jesus is Still Walking on the Water

Hey all...I thought I would take a crack at contributing to Heidi's blog, seeing as she is a little out of commission today.

A lot has happened since Thursday last week that's for sure.

  • nausea - check
  • dizziness - check
  • vomiting - check
  • indigestion - check
  • anxiety - check
  • extreme fatigue - check
  • sensitivity to smells - check
  • tears - check
  • bits of bananas, Ginger Ale, oatmeal, water - check
  • Canucks' game 5 win over Bruins - check

What a strange thing it is to go into the hospital feeling great - sit in a chair, get put on a drip for a few hours - go home and everything changes. It's like instant flu of the worst sort. These few days have taken their toll.

Today we celebrate the vomiting subsiding and Heidi's appetite slowly returning. This morning Ana read these verses for us all as a declaration of what is truly real.

So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There's far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can't see now will last forever. (2 Cor 4:16-17)

Blog title comes from my good friend Ryan whose mom had those words on the wall in their house as he grew up.

  1. Praising God for the small things :) I am glad to hear you have received a bit of relief today. I cannot tell you enough how amazing it is to hear the raw emotions you and your family are feeling but at the same time remember and acknowledging the HAND of GOD in all of this. I can only imagine it is hard at times but to continually come back to HIS promises....I know without of a shadow of a doubt that he is greatly pleased with you. Continue to take one day at a time allowing him to provide ALL that you need. You are in my thoughts and prayers...God bless you as you walk this journey.

  3. Dear Sam and Heidi, I am so thankful that today was a better day. And I am also thankful that amidst the difficulties, that you are centered in Gods love for you and His promises for your lives. God is able to do infinitely more than we can imagine. We'll continue pressing in prayer.

  4. I can't imagine. The description of going to the hospital feeling well and later the intensity of the reaction... wow. Thanks Sam for the update and I'm glad, Heidi, that you're feeling a bit better today. May all the treatment work miraculously well as God directs it. (I love the verse your daughter read... praying for God's peace and strength for all of you.)

  6. The wave is a good analogy, from a friend who experienced this kind of treatment last year, and your check list seems on par. Good days and bad, your faith will sustain you both as will Ana and Zach. A small tip from this friend, popsicles were a mainstay; her six months of treatment are now behind her, she feels wonderful again and life is good. So visualize the rainbow that will make an appearance in the not too distant future. Thinking of you all.
